From Heartbreak to Hope: 12 Lives Saved in Maple Park

10/12/2025

A dozen animals at a Maple Park, Illinois, equine rescue were facing the imminent loss of their home—and possibly their lives. Second Chancel Saddlebreds (SCS) stepped in to save them.

Many of these horses had been mistreated prior to coming into rescue. And they were again headed for a heartbreaking fate due to a property sale, leaving their caregivers, Casey’s Safe Haven, without the barn it had rented since 2019.

We couldn’t let this be the end of the story for these resilient animals. SCS adopted all 11 horses and one donkey. They will be relocated just down the road to our state-of-the-art facility, where they will receive the highest level of care for the rest of their lives.

SCS was built on our founder's love for American Saddlebreds, but the new SCS home is welcoming to all horse breeds in need.

Please help us rewrite their next chapter. Because every horse deserves a second chance.

Thank you for opening your hearts and your doors to these sweet souls. Praying that they all transition well, especially the 'grannies'

Thank you for your kind words. Everyone is settling in very nicely. The team is working hard to keep the same routines the horses are accustomed to and we are off to a great start.

Due to unforseen personal issues I moved on from Casey's. However I always kept up with issues about Casey's. I was their Secretary for a number of years, a volunteer and also adopted one of their rescued horses. It was my love for all these animals that I did whatever I could to help.
Please keep me included in any information regarding these animals. I saw the barn manager Mitch a while, back, but I was in the wrong part of the property at the time. Please keep me posted as to how the horses & Petunia are doing. Really would appreciate it. Thank you and God Bless
